‘We’ve been good since he’s come in’ Michael Morrison on Mark Bowen as manager

Reading’s Michael Morrison has told the Cambridge Independent that he thinks that Mark Bowen has made them a much better team since he became the head coach.

The Royals started with Jose Gomes as their head coach and it’s fair to say it didn’t go well. Reading really struggled for form and were 3rd from bottom when the board decided enough was enough and sacked him. His replacement would be Bowen, someone who has not managed a senior side on a permanent basis before this job. He had been learning from Mark Hughes though as his assistant manager over the last few years.

Since Bowen has become manager, Reading have managed to rise from the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table. Before the season was suspended, they were 14th in the table and are now clear of the relegation zone.

Morrison has now said that Bowen has not got enough credit for the turnaround he has been able to create at the club since becoming manager.

He said: “It took us a little while to gel,

“Mark Bowen took over and he has got us a lot more organised. We’re efficient I think, especially away from home as we’ve got some real threats on the counter-attack.

“We’ve been good since he’s come in and I don’t think enough’s been made of it, how well we’ve done since he has come in.

“We had a bit of a bad spell after Christmas, but if he’d been manager for the whole season I do believe we would have been challenging for the play-offs.”
