Peterborough United look to return to winning ways

Peterborough United currently sit fourth in the Sky Bet League One table, and have enjoyed a good start to the season, but things have gone slightly downhill lately.

Darren Ferguson’s side are without a win in their last three league matches, with a last gasp equaliser at home to Coventry City at the end of October being the last time they picked up a point.

Since then, they have played two league matches, losing both, firstly at Blackpool and then going down at mid-table Shrewsbury Town.

Posh host Burton Albion this weekend as they look for a return to winning ways and try and put pressure on Wycombe Wanderers and Ipswich Town, who are currently the top two sides in the division.

No-one can deny Peterborough’s goal scoring prowess. Their front three of Ivan Toney, Mo Eisa and Marcus Maddison have scored more goals between them than 88 of the 91 Football League clubs, with just Manchester City and Oxford United finding the back of the net more than them three.

However, Posh will have to find a replacement for Toney this weekend. The joint top goalscorer in Sky Bet League One will be suspended for the Burton match after picking up his fifth league yellow card of the season in their last outing with Shrewsbury.

There are a few names in contention to replace Toney, none more-so than 17-year-old striker Ricky Jade-Jones, who is highly thought of by everyone connected with Peterborough United.

The young striker has started just one game for Posh, scoring in the 2-1 leasing.com trophy victory over rivals Cambridge United. He also came off the bench to score Posh’s second on Tuesday night as they progressed to the FA Cup second round with a 2-0 victory over Stevenage.
